Maroon 5 singer sues Activision over use of likeness in Band Hero

Adam Levine, lead singer of Maroon 5 (your little sister's favorite band three years ago) , is suing Activision for inappropriately using his likeness in 2009's Band Hero, according to a suit found by The Wrap. Levine performed motion capture to have his avatar used in the Band Hero song "She Will Be Loved," but didn't give Activision permission to use his likeness with other songs, which it totally did. Levine alleges that Activision asked other artists for expanded use of their avatars and paid them more in the process.

Activision is no stranger to lawsuits like Levine's, losing a similar case to No Doubt in 2010 (Talk about jumping on the Bandwagon late).

Cave Story 3D includes 'expanded' stages and Prinny, but not original game

In an interview with Siliconera, NIS America producer Jack Niida hinted at a Prinny crossover in Cave Story 3D. "You can probably expect our most popular character in there. Niida also offered a bit more info about the expanded content in the 3D version, which Nicalis hinted at during our preview. There are new areas to explore; long time fans will definitely see the difference."

What won't be in Cave Story 3D is the original Cave Story. "That's one thing we were talking about too," he said, "but the problem was the amount of space on the card size. We sort of squeezed everything in and at this point we don't have enough space for it."

The new DLC for Dragon Age II, Legacy, uses the game's built in system to get players to purchase it instead of using Steam to do it. There is no question that this method of DLC acquisition comes in violation of Steam's terms and conditions, which require that DLCs be available through Steam, and not through the developer's own system. It's highly doubtful that EA pulled the title from Steam.

That being said, neither Valve nor EA have yet to comment on the game's sudden disappearance but it wouldn't be surprising if EA spoke up first, much as they did the last time this happened with Crysis 2.

It doesn't help matters that EA's Origin service comes in direct competition with Steam, a development which surely ruffled a few feathers over at Valve's Bellevue headquarters.

The question now is whether it's okay for Valve to retain such exclusivity to games and their DLCs in its terms and conditions. There's no question that Steam belongs to Valve and they reserve every right to do it, but we must ask ourselves whether it's a good thing for the industry as a whole for Steam to monopolize digital distribution.

This goes a step further than the complaints against retailer monopolization of pre-order exclusives.
